Hello all! Just like many of you, I have tried and tried to lose the weight to no avail, to the point where the more I did the more weight I gained. My efforts became moot and I was on the verge of depression, it not already there. When my doctor finally started talking about a surgical option, it stuck with me. I kept thinking "damn, I am that big". So I started to research my options and found the sleeve to be the best for me. In my searching I came across Dr. Almanza, and I begin to consider Mexico as an option. So to the boards I went, reading any and everything about people's who had surgery there in Tijuana, and I was greatly surprised by all the positive I had read. I did come across a couple of negative posts, but with the thousands of surgeries completed, 1 or 2 people with complications seemed minimal, especially when you add in the human factor (i.e. this is more than a surgery, it is a lifestyle change, and you "have to" follow instructions).

On to my experience...So I arrived in San Diego, where I was driven to the hotel along with two other passengers, Jeff, another patient, and Curtis, whom gave his testimony because he had the surgery earlier in the year and had lost tons thus far. These guys were truly amazing, as I had traveled alone, but never did I feel like I was by myself. At the hotel, I was greeted and assigned a roommate, also awesome.

We were taken to the hospital the next morning, had test, and filled out additional paperwork. Dr. Almanza came in, met with us, took pictures, and answered any questions we had. He really was a nice guy. Within an hour, the IV was in, I was in a hospital gown, and being taken to the operating room. From being put on the table to waking up in recovery seemed like 3.5 minutes. When I woke, I had known the surgery had happened, because of the drain, but I was not in pain. The most uncomfortable thing is the gas, you have to walk....walk...walk...and walk some more. I did have nausea but mostly because I kept forgetting to block the IV before standing. Only on about the fifth time, I remembered and then had a cathartic moment. The next morning, we were taken to the hotel, and then to x-ray for the leak test the following day. The next morning, we were in the van on the way to the airport to fly home.

So all in all, it was a great experience, like an all inclusive medical spa really. My surgery was on 13 November, and I have lost 20 lbs so far.
