I recently had the gastric sleeve done (02/27/2024) and I was a little concerned as I am 64 years old and have a lot of health problems. I should not have worried because it was a great experience. We arrived in San Diego, CA and were met at the airport and taken to the hospital in Mexico. We were greeted and advised of rules, then taken for testing, (lab work etc...) I met with the cardiologist which kind of scared me as he obviously had some concerns. (that was ok, I had concerns too!) We were then taken to our rooms. It was beautiful room, had a balcony and view, private bathroom. The nursing staff was wonderful and very helpful. I can't remember all their names but I really liked my night nurse Candy. She was the one that had to wake me up for care during the night and she was very gentle and kind. My only suggestion for the nursing staff is to have the translator app available on their phones when assisting non-Spanish speaking patients as there were a couple of minor communication problems. Dr Almanza was exceptional and I think he did an wonderful job! I am post-op almost a week now, on my liquid diet still and doing very well. I am no longer taking pain medication, no nausea, and my incisions seem to be healing. If you are going here for your surgery, take a warm robe and slippers, the hospital is kept on the cool side, but they do provide extra blankets. Will update review later when I am further along in the recovery process. Great experience!
