Many of my friends thought I was nuts to go to Mexico for surgery. One even said I would wake up missing a kidney. I have to say I spoke with friends, who had gastric sleeve surgery in the US, and I believe I received better care from Dr Almanza than they received. My other friends were sent home after a night in the hospital. I went to a hotel where nurses came to my room three times a day to continue IV medication and to change the bandages. Popcicles, Jello, and broth were available at the hotel. I got a leak test and x-ray of my stomach, my friends did not. They were really mad when they heard how much I spent and that I would not be in debt for years.

The only thing medically I would recommend would be a stronger pain killer right after the surgery. The first night was not nice. My friends that had the surgery in the US got a narcotic pain killer, which knocked them out. Dr Almanza needs to remember we were pampered Americans, who were not use to feeling pain. After the first night the pain went away. I was shopping the next day.

Also there was some confusion about the hotel. I told the representative I wanted my own room, and she told me to make my own arrangements with the hotel. I went on Hotels.com and made reservations. I could not get a room for the first night, so I booked another hotel in the area. What the representative should have told me was to contact the hotel by phone and tell them I was having the surgery. A room would have been provided to me cheaper than Hotel.com. I lost the money I paid for one night in the other hotel.

I was very happy with my surgery, and I an doing great.
