I was very nervous about leaving the country to have a major surgery, in my mind I continually doubted with questions such as this: what if you get there and they have no record of your payment? what if you are stuck in a foreign country? without knowing the language, or having a back up plan, this was not my best laid plan. I forged ahead because the desire for change was greater than the fear of the unknown, and this was my ticket to a new me.
The process to register, buy my plane ticket, and make my reservation was so easy, too easy in my mind, but I went ahead everyday forming a plan.
The day finally arrived and I told a handful of people what I was doing and where I was going, just incase..
I arrived in San Diego and just like I was told, there was a driver who took me and one other passenger across the border into Tijuana, where I was taken to the Hospital for pre admission testing, and then back to my hotel room for rest, sleep and a small amount of broth. I saw lots of other patients in various stages of healing and was able to speak with them freely about my fears and their successes.
The next morning I awoke and started my journey. I was terrified!! The nursing staff was so caring and they were always available, their English was very good and I was comforted by the fact that they were all so professional. The Doctor came and spoke to us briefly and then it was time to go to the operating room..
I woke up with little to no pain in the abdomen, and the journey continued to get better everyday.
Today I am two weeks out of surgery and slowly re introducing foods to my body. It is a little soon for a testimonial, but I just wanted you to know, that it is okay to be scared, it is okay to shed a tear, you are about to embark on the biggest change of your life and you are going to be Great!!
