In upper North America we are very reliant on media to form our opinions
and this is unfortunate. There is alot of good in the third country of our
continent and we missout. I remember many years ago hearing a story of
a lady that had traveled to Mexico to have surgery and she lamented on the
tragedy that this was for her, and it colored my perception.
I knew I needed medical intervention but the local pilot program for gastric
bariatric surgery (namely Gastric Vertical Sleeve) is a joke and with no time
to wait and see if I may be put on a 2-3 year waiting list. I started to research
my options south of Canada. A man who had hit the news with his story and
I later met had traveled to Nevada and paid $11,000 for his procedure. I
thought well maybe but when I got the final bill for my Masters degree, I
thought no way.
It was strange that very day as I prayed for help and guidance from above I
came across an ad for Jerusalem Hospital. I was so skeptical but I went online
further and did some research. I found clips on UTUBE that helped me make
the decision. So I set up the appointment and four days later I was in
San Diego and on the sixth day I was at the airport waiting to be picked up
by the hospital van. I was so surprised and relieved to find 13 others waiting to
to do the same. From that point on the only nervousness I experienced was
normal pre surgery jitters. It's interesting how the commonality of the
surgery made us bond quickly.
The worst part of the experience is the first 24 hrs post surgery, but hey
I just lost 80% of my stomach, my body is going to react. It's been a week
and I feel good. I feel little pain and I am following the post op instructions
feeling very confident that the surgical team at Jerusalem Hospital are
professional and my future is looking healthy.
