Let me first start off by saying a hearty THANK YOU to Dr. Almanza and his fantastic staff and fellow medical staff that attended to me during my stay in 2015 for my gastric sleeve surgery.
My story begins long before I made the decision to have gastric sleeve surgery.
I was diagnosed as a type two diabetic in 1994. so for 20 years I battled diabetes until in the middle to the end of 2014 I was taking 2000 milligrams of Metformin per day along with 5 insulin injections (2 different types of insulin). My Dr. told me towards the end of 2014 that it was evident I was unable to manage my diabetes on my own and therefore I would seriously need to consider the placement of an insulin pump to better regulate my blood glucose levels.
Well to say the least I had tried dieting in the past and had lost 100 pounds twice in the past 20 years. My weight had ballooned up to 303 pounds. So both times I had lost 100 pounds my blood glucose levels dropped to a point where I no longer needed blood glucose control medication. I was therefore never face with the probability that a pump would be essential, were I to maintain a constant level of manageable blood glucose levels.
I asked to Dr to give me 6 months to see if I could lose weight and attempt to make a difference in my blood sugar levels.
I decided along with 2 friends to have the surgery at the same time in Mexico by Dr Almanza. Dr Almanza came highly recommended by a colleague of one of my friends that was having the surgery.
I came into Mexico and the surgery scared and skeptical. My weight was a staggering 285 pounds.
After 1 year and 6 months I have lost 100 pounds and it is staying off. I actually lost down to about 170 pounds. That was a little too much per my Dr. So I am up to between 180 and 190 pounds.
To give you a perspective of how much that is I am sending a before surgery picture of me in an orange t-shirt and an after surgery picture of me in a white t-shirt.
Also just to tell you how much weight tht is, I wore a 48 pants in the waist, I now wear 3a 6 in the waist. I wore a 3-X t-shirt, I now wear an XL t-shirt. So it is unbelievable to me to be in this weight range with these sizes.
It makes me happy to know there is someone like Dr Almanza and his team to care about folks like me.
I am as content with my surgery and so happy with the outcome I will nver be able to say how much I thank all of the team.
Sincerely and Respectfully,
I am
