I am very pleased to have been able to afford to have the gastric sleeve surgery in Mexico because I couldn't afford to have the surgery in the US because of the very high cost and my insurance wouldn't cover the surgery. The staff were very friendly and the clinic, although small, was very clean. I met with the coordinator who was very nice and informative. The cardiologist was very friendly and funny. The first night was difficult for me because I had to have a drain in my nose to my stomach because I had my lapband removed along with the sleeve surgery. I had to share the room, but it was fine because the first night we mostly slept and the nurses came several times throughout the night to administer pain meds and antibiotics. I had to stay a second day at the other clinic because of my the drain in my nose, but everyone else went to the hotel. The day and night nurses were very attentive and capable. The only problem I had was that they put me in a room with two plastic surgery patients who, although friendly, stayed up all day and night eating, laughing and talking which aggravated me because I wasn't able to get the rest I really needed. I wouldn't have mind being in a room with a fellow sleever who was going through the same experience as I was.
They need to get a large facility that can acommodate the volume of patients they have. However, they seemed to have a system that worked and everyone knew and did their job well. When I met Dr. Almanza, he was professional, friendly and addressed all of my concerns which put me at ease about the surgery and I went in to surgery with no worries.
The Hotel Tiquan was beautiful! I paid the extra $50 to have my own room because by that time I wanted privacy and it was well worth the money. We walked down the streets and shopped, but I didn't like the aggressiveness of the vendures, but I know they were trying to make a living. The morning we went back to San Deigo was very tiresome and it took about two hours in bumper to bumper traffic to get to and across the border. There were vendures and people all down the highway selling anything and everything and they were very aggressive trying to sell their product and frankly I felt sorry for them because they were doing what they had to do to survive. With all that said, I have no regrets going there for my surgery and I would go again if I need cosmetic surgery because you just can't beat saving thousands of dollars on the same surgery with very experienced and capable doctors.
It's been three weeks and haven't had any complications. I have lost 21 pounds and am very pleased!
