After two other members of my family had this surgery, I felt better about doing it myself. I read a whole bunch of testimonials and felt very good about going to Mexico. Because I live in Los Angeles, my husband drove me down to the airport in San Diego and I met my sister there. (she flew in from Nevada) Soon, our driver was there to pick us up and drive us to Tijuana. Such a quick trip! We did all the preliminary work at the hospital and next thing I knew, I was getting on the operating table. For a brief minute, I thought: what the heck am I doing??" But then I was waking up and it was all over.
The first night in the hospital I didn't sleep much, but I walked a ton. I walked any chance I got and I think that helped me recover much faster.
The next day I was at the hotel and it was very nice. The nurses are fantastic - love Alex! - and felt very well taken care of. I went souvenir shopping both days I was at the hotel.
The only things I didn't like were swallowing the barium drink - WAY too much - and the fact that they don't use dissolvable stitches. But other people in my group weren't given so much barium drink, so I think that was a fluke for me.
I am down 25 pounds in just 4 weeks. So glad I did this. And not at any time did I feel unsafe in Mexico. In fact, we kept our hotel room door open in the day and chatted with fellow sleeve patients and made friends. Totally recommend this.
