First, WeightLossAgents is actually a legitimate enterprise and were responsive to my questions. They linked me with a reputable surgeon in Tijuana, Mexico, Dr. Almanza, that performed my surgery. After my surgery, they called me periodically to check on my progress.
Second, I had all my travel documents (passport and state identification) and I was able to enter Mexico and re-enter the USA without problems. The staff picked me up exactly where I was to be picked up in the US and transported me to the hospital in Mexico without any problems or drama.
Third, the price I was quoted was straight and fair. There were no hidden costs when I got to the hospital. I paid cash and this actually reduced the cost of my procedure.
Fourth, the clinic was clean and the staff was professional. I received a check on my heart to make sure that I did not have any heart defects that may put me at risk of dying during the surgery.
Fifth, the hotel I stayed in was on par with hotels in the US.
Sixth, the medical team including the drivers was professional at all times. No one hustled me for money, favors, etc. They did their job and maintained healthy boundaries. I appreciated this.
Seventh, I have lost weight. I went from a dress size 18 top/20 bottom to a size 12 top/14 bottom. And I am still losing. Weight loss is an individual journey and everyone is different. So, a little bit about me. I am a tall woman and weighed about 285 lbs at the time of my surgery. I had just had a baby six months before my surgery and had gained lots of weight. Before my pregnancy, I had also struggled with my weight.
Because I am tall, I carried my weight well but I knew that I was in trouble. My knees hurt. My feet were swollen. My breathing was labored. Finding nice clothes was mission impossible. I was becoming increasingly depressed about my appearance and thought about my weight CONSTANTLY. Worse, I had this knowing feeling that I was going to gain more weight as time went on and things were not going to get better.
So, I decided to take action. I went online to Real Self and searched for bariatric surgeons in DR and Mexico and I came upon someone that had been sleeved by Dr. Almanza. This person gave a good review. I also read other positive reviews. My gut said go for it and I called a family member that had a similar surgery and told them that I was taking the plunge. They encouraged me and agreed to accompany me to Mexico should I decide to do it. I googled Dr. Almanza's name and WeightLossAgents came up in the search. I opened an online account with WeightLossAgents, set a date, booked plane tickets, and got my money together.
My surgery was successful and I went home a day before my discharge. I was able to return to work immediately. Eating was impossible and liquids were a must. Admittedly, I tried to eat...and it hurt like the dickens. I even had one harrowing choking incident. My advice is to follow the eating plan strictly. I did experience surgical pain for several months and I just lived with it until it went away.
I do not exercise, but I have lost over 70 lbs and I am still losing, but very slowly now. I plan to start working out 20 to 30 minutes a day. Overall, I lost my weight slowly, but I was okay with this because people did not suspect that I had done any surgery and assumed that I was losing the baby weight that I gained from being pregnant. I do not have lose skin, which is a blessing. I think this is a function of my genetics, age, slow weight loss and also, I was not obese for a long time before I did the surgery; so my skin had not been stretched for years. The only thing that I am unhappy about is that my incisions keloided and darkened. I went to a dermatologist in the US to get them treated with steroids and they are improving.
